Step 1 of 2
Pricing your roof…
One momentGot it — an estimator will call.
They will want to walk the roof: the drainage, the access and the deck are what price a flat system, and none of it shows up from the air.
One contract, one company responsible — JAC is a licensed general contractor as well as a roofer.
Got it — we have your details.
You are outside Tampa Bay and Central Florida, so this is a call rather than a price. Someone will tell you straight whether we can get to you.
If we cannot, we will say so and point you at someone who can. A roofer who drives two hours to a job is a roofer who is not there when it leaks.
Got it — we have your details.
A roofer from the Tampa Bay office will call you to book your free inspection. You get the same written roof report, photographed slope by slope, and a fixed price once someone has actually been on the roof.
We do not show an instant price on the Gulf Coast. The aerial pricing tool only covers Central Florida, and a number we cannot stand behind is worse than no number at all.
- 1Drop in your address. Street and number is plenty.
- 2We call down the satellite. It photographs your roof from orbit while you wait.
- 3An estimator calls you with the price. Shingle, metal or flat — a real number for your roof, not a screen guess.
Nobody turns up unannounced. An estimator calls you at a time you agree to, with the price.
See the colour on a house before you choose it
Owens Corning's own viewer, with the full colour range for both Duration lines. Shingle colour is the one decision on a roof you live with from the street for twenty years, and a two-inch sample board is a bad way to make it.
What actually decides a roof colour in Florida
The visualiser answers "what does it look like". These are the four things that decide whether you still like it in five years.
Look at it in Florida light, not showroom light
The sun here is harder and higher than the photography in any brochure. A blend that reads as warm grey in a catalogue often reads as flat silver at midday in Tampa, and a brown that looks rich indoors can look washed out at two in the afternoon. Whatever the screen says, see the sample outdoors.
Match the house, not the trend
The roof is the largest single surface on the elevation and the one you change least often. It has to sit with brick, stucco, trim and shutters that are already there, and it will outlast at least one repaint. Picking the roof to suit the walls is cheaper than the reverse.
Check the HOA before you fall in love with a colour
Architectural review is common across Central Florida's master-planned neighbourhoods and the newer Gulf Coast subdivisions, and the approved palette is usually shorter than the manufacturer's. Finding that out after the material is ordered is an expensive way to learn it.
Mid-tones age best in this climate
Humidity means algae streaking eventually, and flat light greys and flat blacks show it first. Variegated mid-tone blends carry it far more gracefully, which matters on a roof you expect to look at for fifteen to twenty years.
Want to see it on your roof rather than a model home? The free inspection photographs every slope from the air, and those photographs beat any simulation for making the decision.
Choosing a roof colour — questions we get
Does a dark roof make a Florida house hotter?
Measurably, yes — a dark roof surface can run 20–30°F hotter than a light one in full Florida sun. How much of that reaches the rooms underneath depends far more on attic ventilation and insulation than on the colour, which is why a well-ventilated dark roof can outperform a badly ventilated light one. If cooling cost is the deciding factor, ask about the ventilation before you decide about the colour.
Will my HOA let me choose any colour?
Often not. Across the master-planned communities of Central Florida and the newer Gulf Coast subdivisions, architectural review commonly restricts roof colour to an approved palette, and approval has to happen before material is ordered rather than after. We submit that for you as part of the job.
Does the colour on screen match the shingle?
Close, but never exact. A screen is backlit and a roof is not, every monitor is calibrated differently, and granule blends read differently at 30 feet than at arm's length. Use the visualiser to narrow it to two or three, then look at a physical sample board outdoors, on the roof's own pitch, at the time of day you see the house most.
Which roof colours hide algae streaking best?
Florida's humidity makes dark streaking from Gleocapsa magma close to inevitable on an older roof. Mid-tone and variegated blends hide it best; flat light greys and flat blacks show it worst. Algae-resistant shingles with copper granules delay it rather than prevent it, and most warranties on that run ten years.
Does roof colour affect resale?
Less than people expect, with one exception: a colour that clashes with the body of the house or breaks an HOA palette can cost you on a sale. A neutral that sits with the brick, stucco or trim is the safe answer, and it is what most of these roofs end up being.
Can I see my own house with a new roof on it?
The visualiser on this page shows the colours on a model home, which is the honest way to compare granule blends side by side. To see your own roof, book the free inspection — we photograph every slope from the air, and those photographs are a better basis for the decision than any simulation.
More on choosing a roof
- Shingle, tile or metal — which roof is right for a Florida home? For most Florida homes, architectural shingle is the right answer: it is the cheapest to install at roughly $11,000–$20,000 on a 22–26 square roof.
- What does a roof warranty actually cover? Two separate warranties cover a new roof and they fail in different ways.
- How long does it take to replace a roof?A typical Florida single-family shingle roof is a one to two day job once the crew is on site: tear off and dry-in on day one, finish on day two.
- How long does a roof last in Florida? In Florida, architectural asphalt shingle realistically lasts about 15–20 years despite a 25–30 year rating, and 3-tab about 10–15.
- What is a wind mitigation inspection, and what does a roof earn on it?Florida's Uniform Mitigation Verification Inspection Form, OIR-B1-1802, was revised effective 1 April 2026 under Rule 69O-170.0155.
- How much does a roof replacement cost in Florida?Florida roofs are priced per square — 100 square feet of roof surface — and a single-storey 2,000 square foot home is usually 22–26 squares.
